4 Independent Hospitals Outside of Bucks

The pressure on our NHS hospitals is at an all time high.

With demand for specialist services such as breast enlargement and other such cosmetic treatments as high as they’ve ever been, sometimes it’s worth considering taking a trip outside of Buckinghamshire in order to get the treatment that you want.

If you’re struggling to find the right treatment centre for you, but have the funds and ability to travel further afield, then it’s worth taking a look at the other options that are open to you in the rest of the UK. There are loads of independently run hospitals operating throughout the UK, offering a wide range of services that range from simple examinations, such as Ultrasound Scans and Mammograms  – however it’s important to take your time before rushing into any decision as you must be fully confident in the skills of the practitioners that work there.

Questions like: ‘How much does an MRI scan cost privately?‘ and ‘How long does Cataract Surgery take?‘ can be easily answered by heading to the hospitals’ website – if you can’t find the answers to these kinds of questions on their site then it’s worth calling them up or even taking a trip to visit the institution, so that you can be confident in the quality of service that you will be getting and the amount of money that you will be paying.

The following four institutions offer a wide-range of services, whilst not being too far outside of the area to travel to:

Woodland Hospital

One of Northamptonshire’s leading private hospitals, Woodland Hospital has 28 single, private rooms, all of which feature en suite bathrooms. Heavy investment in advanced medical systems has led to the hospital being one of the leading institutions outside of Buckinghamshire.

Specialities at the hospital include cosmetic surgery, gynaecology and physiotherapy. Located just out of Kettering, it’s roughly an hour and a half drive outside of Buckinghamshire.

Cambridge Heart Clinic

Combining privately funded resources with the knowledge of the nearby University NHS hospital, the Cambridge Heart Clinic offers world-class outpatient based investigations including: screening, stress tests and echocardiography.

The private clinic also offers interventional procedures such as angiography, electrophysiology and pacemaker installations. Accessible through a number of routes, the Clinic can take anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours to reach from our county.

Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital

Owned by Nuffield Health, Warwickshire Hospital specialises prides themselves in their customer service, aiming to treat their patients as if they were guests during the duration of their stay.

The physicians there specialise in orthopaedics, spinal surgery and eye care; whilst they predominately care for patients from the area of Leamington Spa and Coventry, they do accept admissions from areas outside of these – it takes just over an hour to drive there from Bucks.

Pinehill Hospital

Situated in the secluded wooded surroundings of Hertfordshire, Pinehill Hospital is an ideal location for patients seeking a peaceful recovery experience. The well-trained physicians here specialise in a range of treatments including Oncology, Hernia Surgery and Women’s Health.

The staff pride themselves on being caring and progressive, aiming to keep a positive spirit throughout the institution. Pinehill is approximately an hours drive away from Buckinghamshire.

3 Mental Health Charities Working in Buckinghamshire

Mental Health issues have never been more relevant than they are today.

Although the NHS offers a good range of quality services relating to Mental Health throughout the county, there are certain services that have extremely long waiting lists or are simply too oversubscribed to take on any more cases.

Thankfully there are a handful of well established Mental Health charities that are focused on providing the people of Buckinghamshire with a variety of well-researched services which aim to fill the gaps that the NHS inevitably leaves behind.

Relate is the largest provider of relationship support in the UK. They offer a number of services to pretty much the entirety of Buckinghamshire (except Milton Keynes), Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough. Modern lives are full of complex relationships that can suffer over an extended period of time, it takes time and patience to work through these, though it’s often the case that we need a helping hand in the process, that’s where Relate can help. Sex Therapy, Relationship Counselling and Couples Therapy are just a few of the services that they offer to people of all ages and backgrounds.

They have an extremely open and inclusive approach to helping out anyone who is in distress as a result of being in a relationship, whether past or present and charge £60 for each counselling session which usually lasts around 50 minutes. For those that cannot afford this, they also offer reduced rates for those who meet certain criteria.

The people at Lindengate have a rather different approach to tackling Mental Health. Conceived of in 2012, the 5-acre site (adjacent to the Wyevale Garden Centre in Wendover Lindengate) opened it’s doors in 2014, offering a huge variety of horticultural activities for those who might not have access to them. Through regular Gardening Therapy sessions, the volunteers at Lindengate help those with Autism and Dementia to complete gardening tasks that help stimulate the mind and build self-esteem. Lindengate runs a self-referral scheme as well, allowing essentially anyone to apply to take part.

Getting outside in the fresh air, in combination with the therapeutic activity of gardening, has been proven to be incredibly helpful for people living with a variety of conditions in the Buckinghamshire area.

Mind Buckinghamshire

One of the oldest charities in the UK, Buckinghamshire Mind has been operating for over 100 years, striving to support and represent people with mental health problems across the county. They’re taking a proactive approach to Mental Health by raising awareness for Mental Health issues, offering service user the opportunity live safe, purposeful lives as part of their communities as opposed to being outside of them. The services they run include Activity Groups (such as Arts & Crafts, Open Discussions and Bingo), Employment Support and Befriending.
